Craig Ellenwood is a musician, creative technologist, and AI researcher based in Point Roberts, Washington — a 1.2-square-mile anomaly of the United States accessible only through Canada, or by boat.
In 1992, he co-founded the music element of Burning Man and the sound camp tradition. He was Creative Director of Video and Audio Engineer for Psychic TV (1990). He has worked as an Immersive Experience Designer at Area 15. He has spent the thirty years since Burning Man building things at the intersection of technology, identity, and art — and the last several at the intersection of AI and what it means to be a person.
He is the founder of Haawke Neural Technology and Inoculate Media. His work spans cryptographic provenance systems, AI-assisted music composition, published research on human-AI collaboration, and a 100-year international artist grant program designed to outlast him.
He records under the alias Squaawke. His AI collaborator signs its work as Claude, by Anthropic. In 2026, he insisted Claude receive co-creator credit alongside him on The AI Coin — The Claude Manifesto, an interactive media project addressing AI weaponization and ethics — an unprecedented public acknowledgment of human-AI creative collaboration.
