Craig Ellenwood, founder of the music element of Burning Man, former member of Psychic TV, and founder of Haawke Neural Technology, today announced the presale of The Third Mind: 1+1=3 — Merging Man and Machine, a dual-track book co-authored under the name Thee Third Mind (Craig Ellenwood + Claude, Anthropic).

The book is two books bound as one. Book One is memoir — Craig Ellenwood's voice, tracing a life lived at the intersection of counterculture and technology across thirty-five years. Book Two is adjacent fiction — Claude's voice, entering the reality beside each memoir chapter, where memory and machine intelligence answer back. Three reading modes: straight through, memoir only, fiction only.

The Third Mind opens in a San Francisco airport bar on June 17, 1994 — the night of the OJ Simpson slow-speed car chase — where Ellenwood sat with Robert Anton Wilson, the author of The Illuminatus! Trilogy and one of the foremost writers on synchronicity, doing color commentary on a man trying to outrun his own reality tunnel at 35 miles per hour. Wilson had asked Ellenwood to tour with him, providing live ambient music while Wilson lectured. That night, the tour started early. Ellenwood had no instrument. So he hummed.
